School of Food and Chemical Engineering

Major Introduction: Biological Engineering major was founded on the earliest domestic fermentation engineering major in original Beijing Institute of Light Industry, which was built in 1958. The fermentation engineering evolved into biochemical engineering in 1984, including two research areas—fermentation engineering and food engineering. And in 1998, the biochemical engineering major was adjusted to biological engineering according to National Undergraduate Major Amendment and was qualified to confer master’s degree. Biological engineering in our school focuses on the application research of biological technology in areas of light industry, agricultural products and plants resources. The major research interests include food biotechnology, biological separation technology and cosmetic biotechnology. The graduates in biological engineering should have grasped the basic theories and techniques of biological technology and engineering, culturing, selecting and breeding of cells. They are qualified to engage in design, manufacture, management, research and development of new products in the field of biological technology and engineering.
Major courses: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Principles, Biological Chemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biological Engineering, Biological Process Principles, Downstream technology of biological engineering, Molecular Biology…etc.
